Privacy Policy

Tapeical records your face and voice when you take a quiz on camera, so we want to be clear about what we keep, who can see it, and how to get rid of it.

What we collect

• Your account: name, email address, username, password (stored scrambled, never in plain text), and your profile bio and picture if you add them.
• Your recordings: the video and audio of you taking a quiz, a still image of your result screen, and your answers and results.
• What you do on Tapeical: quizzes you make, comments, votes, follows, blocks, reports, and how many times takes are viewed.
• Technical details: your IP address and browser or device type for your sign-in sessions, and server logs we use to fix problems and stop abuse.

We only use your camera and microphone while you're recording a quiz. We don't scan your face to identify you, and we don't create face or voice prints.

Who can see your recordings

When you're signed in, your recording uploads to our storage once it's ready, and it's private: only you can see it. Nobody else sees it unless you choose to post it. A posted take is visible to everyone if your profile is public, or only to approved followers if your profile is private. Takes on unlisted quizzes are only shown to you.

If you take a quiz without an account, your result and video stay in your browser and are only uploaded if you sign up.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you signed in and to count how many free quizzes guests have taken today. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

How we use it

We use your information to run Tapeical: to show your content to the people you share it with, send emails you've signed up for (like notifications and password resets), keep the site safe, review reports, and fix bugs. We don't sell your information, we don't show ads, and we don't use your recordings to train AI.

Services that handle your data for us

• DigitalOcean runs the servers the site and database are on.
• Cloudflare R2 stores videos and images.
• Amazon Web Services (SES) sends our emails.
• fal.ai turns quiz text into the host's voice. It receives the quiz's words, never your recordings or account details.

These services are in the United States, so your information is processed there. We may also share information when the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or to report illegal content like child sexual abuse material.

Keeping and deleting your data

You can delete any of your takes at any time, which deletes the video. Deleting your account (in your account settings) deletes your profile, takes, videos, votes and follows. Comments that have replies stay as "[deleted]" placeholders without your name, and quizzes you made stay up without your name on them. Copies in backups are removed as the backups expire.

You can also email support@tapeical.com to get a copy of your data, fix it, or have it deleted. Depending on where you live, you may have more privacy rights under laws like the GDPR or the CCPA, and we'll honor them.

Kids

Tapeical isn't for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child under 13 has an account, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll ask you to accept the new version the next time you use Tapeical.
